Huskerthon is going to be wild this year.
University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Dance Marathon announced the theme for Huskerthon 2020 is “safari” at a theme reveal party on Friday.
“I think that’s really cute because I know the kids will love it, dancers will love it,” Kaitlin McKenna, a morale captain for Huskerthon, said.
Huskerthon is an event hosted by Dance Marathon where college students will be on their feet for 12 hours to raise money for Children’s Hospital and Medical Center in Omaha. Dancers will meet and hear the stories of children and their families who are helped by Children’s Hospitals.
Members of Dance Marathon’s staff showed up at the event in support of the theme by wearing khaki shorts, safari hats, animal print clothing and animal onesies.
“Having a theme for the event helps make both our marketing tactics as well as programming initiatives more cohesive,” Madeline Mohatt, executive director for Dance Marathon, said.
The theme reveal party wrapped up a week of events for Miracle Maker Appreciation Week.
Miracle Maker Appreciation Week included Mr. UNDM, an awareness booth, a miracle mixer, a fundraising night at Junction Nightclub and Shot Bar and finally the theme reveal party.
McKenna said they’ve had more events this year compared to last leading up to Huskerthon.
“I think it gets dancers more involved. It’s more incentive to raise money and you can meet people as well and get to feel the organization,” McKenna said.
The events are to show appreciation for the participants who are raising money for Huskerthon. The staff ended the week by disclosing the theme to get participants even more excited for the event.
A video made by Dance Marathon’s staff announced the theme. The reveal party also included a raffle, treats, karaoke, dancing and plenty of places for a photo op.
The safari theme will appear at Huskerthon on February 29 through t-shirts, props, safari-themed music and decorations.
