Professor Alisa Belflower is leaving the University of Nebraska-Lincoln after 22 years as the coordinator of Musical Theater Studies. She said her position was eliminated due to university budget cuts. Belflower said she has future career prospects in the works, but she will miss her experiences with students over the years.
Graduate teaching assistant in the Glenn Korff School of Music Hayley Shoemaker said that position cuts like Belflower’s make her nervous as a future educator. Doctoral student of Music Arts Krista Lawrence said Belflower is dedicated to her students and promoting new theater productions. Lawrence also stars in “She Loves Me,” Belflower’s last stage production at UNL.
The musical premieres on Friday, March 4 at 7:30 p.m. in the Kimball Recital Hall.
