Two Lincoln businesses came together Nov. 5 to raise money for local charities.
Muchachos owner Nick Maestas and Rutabagas owner Sarah Brown hosted a food-truck showdown to raise money for local charities. Muchachos raised money for El Centro de Las Americas and Rutabeggas raised money for the Food Bank. Brown’s friend, Dr. Meghan Davidson with Love Warrior Healing, decided to match dollar for dollar whoever sold the most burritos throughout the night.

Both businesses opened a restaurant front this year during the pandemic. This fundraiser was a way for them to promote their businesses and to give back to the community. Maestras said the most fun part of the night was talking some friendly smack to Brown about Rutabeggas in the Railyard in Lincoln on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2020.

Both food trucks sold out during the fundraiser, but Rutabeggas won the “friendly competition.” They sold the most burritos and raised $500. Dr. Davidson matched their donation to give $1,000 to the Food Bank.

Maestas hands a freshly made burrito to a customer. "You take the highs and you take the lows," Maestas said. "And just hope that at the end of the day, you take care of your people and you have good products and good customer service and just hope that people come out for you."
