While advocacy might be more visible in bigger cities, Lizzy Lavin wants to remind people it still happens in Nebraska. “I know I get caught into the trap of advocacy being glamorous elsewhere in bigger cities, but it happens here too. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit the United States last year, UNL students Lizzy Lavin and Syrah Andrews found themselves with open schedules and a big idea.

Lavin, a junior English and Women’s and Gender Studies major from Lincoln and Andrews, a junior Secondary Math Education major from Omaha launched the “That’s What You Missed at the Women’s Center” podcast in 2021. In it, they discuss advocacy issues including how to be an activist in Nebraska.
