For students interested in working in the publishing industry, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln offers the class ENGL 355: Editing and the Publishing Industry. The three credit hour, semester-long course allows students to work hands-on in “publishing companies” and experience what it takes to create a publication. Each person is assigned to one of five roles in their company, representing a range of career options in publishing. Throughout the process, students will further refine their editing skills as well as gain tangible experience and work to add to their portfolio. Professor Rachel Cochran explains more about how the class is structured and the projects students will work on throughout the semester.
