Nebraska softball ran its winning streak to eight games, smashing three home runs in a 12-4 six-inning victory Friday night in the opening game of the weekend vs Rutgers in Lincoln.
The Scarlet Knights struck first, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. The Huskers answered with one in the bottom of the first on a Mya Felder RBI single, scoring Billie Andrews.

The Huskers scored four more in the bottom of the second. It started with a sac fly to center field that scored Caitlin Neal. Then Brooke Andrews, who came on in the middle of the at-bat when Cam Ybarra left after being hit by a pitch, hit a 3-run homer that also scored her sister Billie and Peyton Glatter. In the 3rd inning both teams scored on solo homers, by ( ) of Rutgers and the Huskers Abbie Squier. The Huskers led 6-4 going to the 6th inning.

The Huskers scored six more runs in the bottom of the 6th. After a run-scoring error, Sydney Gray doubled to left center scoring Billie Andrews and Camyl Armendariz. Then Squier blasted her second home run of the game, a two-run shot.
The Huskers finished the game with 12 runs on 9 hits. Courtney Wallace, now 11-4, got the win for Nebraska, pitching 4 innings, allowing 4 runs on 5 hits. Kaylin Kinney pitched the fifth and Olivia Farrell finished it off with a scoreless sixth, getting her first save of the season.

Offensively for Nebraska, Abbie Squier led the way as she went 3-4 with 3 hits, including two home runs, and 3 RBI. Brooke Andrews went 1-3 with a clutch home run that put Nebraska up 5-3 in the bottom of the 2nd. Sydney Gray went 1-4, willing adding 3 RBI and Billie Andrews drew 4 walks in the game which tied a Nebraska School Record.
Nebraska Improves to 23-9 on the season, and 3-0 in the Big 10. Game Two of the series with Rutgers is Saturday afternoon.
