Nebraska Volleyball’s Keonilei Akana enters her name into the NCAA transfer portal. The 5-9 sophomore from Hauula, Hawaii served as a powerhouse for the Husker defense leading the team with 42 service aces in the 2021-22 season.

Akana dominated the back row with 302 digs alongside top defensive players, freshman libero Lexi Rodrigez and junior Kenzie Knuckles. 

During the Husker’s debut in the 2022 NCAA Tournament, Akana led the way with ten service aces over six matches. She also recorded 24 digs in the NCAA Championship matchup against Wisconsin. 

In her 2-year tenure at Nebraska, Akana appeared in 53 matches averaging 2.49 digs and .34 aces per set.  

NCAA athletes have until Sunday, May 1, to enter the transfer portal for immediate eligibility for the upcoming fall and winter seasons.  

Akana has a remaining three years of eligibility entering the upcoming 2022-23 season. 

Skylee Nelson is a sophomore at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln studying Broadcasting and Sports Media, with a minor in sociology.
