The Nebraska bowling team finished third in the NCAA bowling championships Saturday in Las Vegas. Freshman Jillian Martin helped the Huskers to their seventh championship bid, and led the tournament with a scoring average of 239 and total pinfall of 717.

Title IX, a law that prohibits discrimination based on sex in education programs and activities, was passed in 1972. It opened the door for more women and girls to play and report on sports for the first time. The University of Nebraska-Lincoln added bowling as a varsity sport in 1997 and has won six NCAA Championships.
